Course Information: Certificate for IT Users Level 1 (CLAiT)

About this course

This course will enable you to use your home computer more efficiently or help you to enhance your career or get back to work. The course is 2 terms or 20 weeks long. To gain the qualification you you will need to complete 3 units which will be negotiated with the tutor.

Course entry requirements

This course is ideal for people who have completed a Start It course. The use of a keyboard and mouse is an essential skill for this course as well as the ability to use the menus in microsoft word. You will need to know how to save and open documents and files before starting on the course.

You will need a reasonable level of reading and writing in English. You will need to be able to understand written and spoken instructions and be able to read simple handouts. You will need an understanding of simple mathematical calculations and of charts and graphs.

What will I learn?

You will learn the basic concepts of IT including how to manage files and folders. You will learn how to produce documents using three applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, database, publications, presentations and the internet. The units are negotiated between you and the tutor.

Assessment and accreditation

There is a test for each unit. You can achieve the Award for |IT Users if you successfully pass 4 units plus the mandatory unit.

A pen and a note pad.

Progress to ECDL Extra or CLAiT Plus.
