Middlesbrough Community Learning offers bespoke equality and diversity training for businesses and organisations. There are two main options:

Option 1:
Managing Equality and Diversity:
A member of the Middlesbrough Community Learning team will have meetings with your senior managers to develop: a vision and strategy for equality and diversity in your organisation an action plan for equality and diversity with associated staff training opportunities

Option 2:
An introduction to Equality and Diversity:
A member of the Middlesbrough Community Learning team will deliver a general introduction in equality and diversity which will include:
• How well do you know your locality? (Quiz)
• Buzzwords are our Business-“Equality”, “Diversity”, “Community Cohesion” and “Social Inclusion”
• Understanding the legal requirements of the 2010 Equality Act and the associated “Protected Characteristics”

The aim of the general introduction course is to update participants who have not taken part in training in this area for a number of years as well as introduce this area to participants who have never attended training on this topic.

All of the training is interactive with the focus on participants being involved throughout the session as they take part in interesting activities which are both thought provoking and enjoyable.

The course runs for one day and covers the basic principles of food hygiene for those working in front line food preparation, processing and retailing. It is suitable for chefs, cafe and restaurant staff, canteen and school staff who handle and prepare food. The course will enable participants to develop the skills to meet food hygiene regulations.

This course is for anyone who needs a food safety certificate for work, involving food handling and preparation. There are no formal entry requirements for this course, but a reasonable level of English reading and understanding is required to complete the assessment (Level 2 recommended).

What can I expect to learn?
The course covers the following topics:
• Historical facts
• Food poisoning
• Bacteria
• Hygiene control
• Pest control
• Kitchen design and layout
• Temperature control
• Cleaning and disinfection
• Food hygiene and the Law
• Food hygiene rules and regulations
• Keeping a kitchen clean and safe

You will become familiar with issues relating to food poisoning, recognising health hazards linked to the infestation of pests and the use of safe food handling techniques.

The course is accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health. The assessment consists of a multiple choice test. On successful completion of the course and assessment you will receive a L2 Award in Food Safety in Catering. The accreditation is valid for three years.
No previous experience required but you will need a good level of reading and writing in English to understand written and spoken instruction.

What can I expect to learn?

• Dealing with an Emergency and preparing an Emergency Action Plan
• Emergency Action Plan
• Priorities of Treatment Turning casualty to a face up position Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation including spinal injury management CPR protocols – Adult
• Use of barrier Aids for Rescue Breathing during CPR
• Choking - Adult procedures
• Unconscious Patient - including recovery position and dealing with a patient who is in seizure (fitting)
• Shock - causes, recognition and treatment
• Wounds and Bleeding Cross Infection/treatment of external and internal bleeding and minor injuries including small splinters
• Managing burns and scalds
• Recording Incidents and First Aid actions.

The course is run over one day and involves both theory and practical sessions.
Certification is dependent on successful continuous assessment. Upon successful completion the certificate is valid for three years.
We offer accredited and non-accredited courses to develop the skills and knowledge of employees to enhance productivity and performance.

Customer Service, IT, Business Administration and Management training can be delivered to suit your needs and the needs of your organisation.

We can also offer bespoke English and Maths courses to help your employees improve and develop their skills in these areas. Research has shown that investing in the English and Maths skills of your employees can improve the productivity of your workforce.
