Course Information: Family History

About this course

This course enables learners to explore their own family history using original records and place them in a social and historical context.

Course entry requirements

No previous experience required but ou will need a good level of reading and writing in English and be able to understand written and spoken instructions. You will need to read and understand handouts and on screen information and be able to work independently.

What will I learn?

The course focuses on research skills:

* The importance of interviewing living relatives

* Where to find and how to read and understand Civil Registration
Records

* Where to find and how to read and understand Census Records

* Where to find and how to read and understand Church of England Parish
Records

Assessment and accreditation

You can develop a portfolio of information regarding your own family history. The course is non-accredited, individual learning plans incorporating the above will be negotiated with the tutor.

What should I bring?

Pen and notebook. Background information about ancestors you wish to investigate.
