Our Smarter Homes course has been designed to show you some of the benefits of using smart devices within your home. A smart device is an electronic device connected to your mobile phone or tablet via your home Wi-Fi (wireless internet). These devices can be used to monitor your property when you’re away, give them impression that you are home when you’re not, control your household appliances to save money or just to show off to your friends. However, they’re also a useful and vital tool for people with limited mobility as they also be programmed to do other things like, turn on the reading lamp, close the curtains, lock the door or boil the kettle.
There’s a growing list of smart home devices, but the most common ones include; Amazon Echo (Alexa – shh, don’t say her name out-loud!), Google Home, CCTV, doorbells, light bulbs, plug sockets, heating controls and security lights.
